Tasks this week
:

1. Assemble your Trophy Case
  • Choose 2 artifacts, each should be from a different milestone (i.e. Conceptual model from human actions and draft prints that show progress)
  • Cut them out of your notebook or recreate them on fresh paper to add to the case.
  • Using invisible ink (on the glass) draw arrows between the artifacts, showing how they impact each other. Label the arrows with descriptions of the interactions. This is a conceptual map.
2. Plan out your exhibition demonstration (for a 4)
  • Plan an interactive task that you could help someone do at exhibition (printing, tessellating, optimizing, sewing, etc) that has to do with one of the milestones.
  • Prepare materials and try out the task
  • Draw a diagram of how you will set up your half of a table at Exhibition (notebook)
  • 1 paragraph reflection on how your practice demonstration went (notebook)
  • Write 3 questions about the task for guests to answer by the end of exhibition,
    • What (can they recall the facts)
    • Why (can they connect the facts together)
    • How (can they discuss the significance/application of the concept)
3. Revise work to raise milestone evaluations
  • Thursday morning is the last seminar for sharing revised work
  • There will be some time Friday morning to present 1:1 to Phil for final revisions. 

For your presentation: Exhibition is your presentation this week.
At exhibition, guests will visit your table and you will guide them through the demonstration that you have planned. Then they will go over to Phil to answer the questions that you wrote for them. Based on how well they do, your milestone evaluation will be adjusted (only positive).

Seminar this week: Thursday AM
Participants will share their milestone work from last week with revisions.

Week 16: Exhibition Prep 2

​This is the final full week of class before Exhibition, and the last office hours before the end of the semester. Field Trip next week!

Tasks this week: (full description here)
  1. ​5c Evidence: I can explain how my organisms developed their specific adaptations to their environment through the process of evolution. (we will work on this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, examples below)
  2. Assemble your trophy case

​Week 15: Exhibition Prep
Welcome back! This week we begin preparation for Exhibition. Overall, we will work to complete your projects as much as possible and each project will get a trophy case that will show off what you’ve learned. 


Tasks this week (in order of urgency)
  • Finish carving (5e)
  • Print a test version of your motif onto paper (5e)
    • Practice until you can register perfectly every time (5f)
    • Record and show your technique for this (4a)
  • Write a reflection in your notebook about the project (S2)
    • Choose 3 prompts from the back of this page
    • Take notes on each with your partner
    • Write your reflection in complete sentences
  • Plan out your trophy case 
    • Decide how you will show evidence of milestone 4b and 5c.
    • Draw in your notebook, cut out pieces of paper to represent items, etc

For presentations: Show your work on 4b (conceptual map, graph/chart, single sentence statement). Template here

I can identify and analyze the impact of human activities on the environment and biodiversity (notes)
1. What are environmental conditions that affect your organism or it's habitat?
2. What human activities cause that condition?
3. What sources show that causality? Create a mathematical representation 
4. Create a conceptual model showing how human activity impacts the environment of your organism.

Week 13: Carving and Printing
This week you will carve out your motif and print it out to test it in preparation for making your full sized fabric product next week.

Week 11: Trophic Cascades 2
Our task this week is to work to outline the scientific article about Trophic Cascades in Yellowstone. 
Additionally, we will be making 1:! scale prototypes of projects with motifs attached

Due in your Notebook this week:
1. Outline of the Article (linked above)
2. 1:1 paper prototype, hanging in the window
-- Either a model of your product or a 11x17 poster with 8, 9, 10 of your motifs 
3. 1/2 page discussing the key issue that your partner both are interested in

Week 11: Trophic Cascades
Our task this week is to work to understand a scientific article about Trophic Cascades in Yellowstone. 

Due in your Notebook this week:
1. Updated pattern for your fabric product. Must include your motif
2. 2 pages of front and back notes on the topic of this week (use the reading guide)
3. Outline of the article
4. Presentation notes


Week 10: Biomes
Reading: There are two articles. The first is informational and the other is a news article. Reading questions and Seminar questions are included. You may answer any or all of the questions for your notebook pages this week.

Prototyping: You will create a paper prototype of a fabric product that you would be interested in making for next cycle of our project.

Due in your Notebook this week
- 3 pages of front and back notes (use the reading as a guide) (Biosphere Article)
- Your prototype fabric product with tessellation (guidelines)

Week 8: Seminars and Motif Preparation
Our goal for this week (middle of the semester) is to review material from the year and ensure that our designs tessellate skillfully. You and your group will host a seminar, and you will print your motif 6 times such that it tessellates.




Week 7: The Diversity of Life
This week we are transferring your best motif to block and carving/printing it out. 


Due Friday, Oct 3
- 3 pages of handwritten notes, back and front, in your notebook on the topic and work of this week 
    - Taking notes on the reading and answering the questions counts
- a print of your tessellating motif in 2 colors

For your presentations. 1 Slide, images only. 
1. choose a concept from your notes this week that was interesting or impactful
2. explain it as if you were talking to someone who has never heard of that concept before
3. try to use simple language or create an analogy

Ideas for pages of Notes
Ecological Roles Analysis: Analyze the interactions shown in your block print. Identify the ecological role of each organism (e.g., producer, consumer, decomposer) and explain how their specific relationships contribute to the overall stability of the habitat.

The Decomposers' Story: Focus on the roles of bacteria and fungi in your habitat. Explain how these organisms break down organic matter and cycle nutrients, using your block print as a starting point for your narrative or report.

Evolutionary Linkages: Choose two organisms from different kingdoms in your block print (or the habitat of your block print) and write an explanation of their evolutionary relationship. Describe how their adaptations influence their interactions and how those interactions contribute to the habitat's stability.

A.I. Tutor: Put the prompt below into an A.I. chat window and discuss your topic with it. Summarize your conversation in 1 page in your notebook. 
   - I'm studying the interactions between (Organism 1, Organism 2, and Organism 3) for my Environmental Science class. I want to be sure that I understand how their interactions lead to stability in their habitat. Ask me questions about this topic and read my responses, asking me to clarify if it sounds like I don't quite get it. Don't move on until I've shown that I understand.
