Nothing New
Fall 23
Story

Here I will share how this project was designed and executed. This is the same story because when you do the project yourself, all the kids need to do is follow your examples.

The first thing I made for this project was a mock up chair where I used leftover bicycle inner tubes and tie down straps from my truck for the seat. All the webbing is stapled in place under the chair skirts. The seat is cool but I thought it could be more interesting in my next draft.

I was inspired by Jens Risom, He was a chair designer in the 50's and had jumped out of planes as a soldier in WWII. When he was given tight budget constraints for his next design assignment, he realized that the seat and back of a chair use a lot of wood. He found a lot of surplus parachute webbing and designed a chair with a comfortable and cheap seat.

This led me to ask: what surplus materials do I have access to? Could I use them to make a seat and back for my chair? The straps were cool but don't look like a finished product.
