Section 1 - Tessellating Frames
Understanding:
Tool Usage - Prompt: Watch the video (from the timestamp linked). How does the person in the video demonstrate safe and unsafe behaviors while working and using tools?
Sanding and Finishing - Prompt: Watch the first 8 minutes of this video. Take notes on finishing, including techniques and materials. Include concise reflection on "How much time should one set aside for finishing a wooden project and why"
Center of Mass - Prompt: using the information from the article and graph paper, draw your frame and find it's center of mass. Show your work. Consider including any notes you take while reading
Prompt: - Why doesn't wood glue stick to the inside of the bottle? 1/2 page double spaced. Cite sources.
Contribution:
Make a safety information card for one of the tools. Use Canva. Get critique. Show your teacher a draft. Like this but more better

Section 2 - First Draft Tessellating Tile
Understanding:
Gear Ratio - Prompt: Take notes on the article. Finish by calculating the gear ratio you will need for your desired final project speed given a 3RPM motor.
CNC Carving Bits - Check out this video (use the CC button to translate to English). Take notes. Write a 2 sentence summary at the end of your notes.
Gear Generator - Watch this video, take notes on how to design gears using the gear generator program and setting up the cut file in easel. Write a short summary about best practices when using gear generator.
Easel Tutorials - Pick 1-2 tutorials to read over. Use what you learn to make changes to your Easel file. Write a summary/reflection on what you did and learned. 1/2 page double spaced.
Contribution/Understanding.
Draw a diagram of a gear by hand, label all the most important parts. Try to make it look organized like this. Show Phil your first draft, so he can build a frame for it to be hung in the class for reference.

Section 3 - Second Draft Tessellating Tile
Understanding:
Jennifer Townley's Page - Look at the artists page for "Alhambra". Regarding her work and documentation, take note of 3 highlights, 2 questions, and 1 suggestion. Prompt: "How is this artists work different from what I made/am making?" 2-3 paragraphs
Amazon Page for the motors we use: What does 50-60hz refer to and does that affect the RPM of the motor? **2-3 paragraphs for individuals OR 2 students may create 3-5 minute video together.
Terms list: Choose five terms that you have learned or used a lot during this section (refer to notes). Define them in the context of your project. (Ex. A washer is a disk with a hole drilled in the middle. It fits onto the axle of my machine. The reason it is there is to prevent the axel from shifting forwards or backwards in the back plate, and keep the axle perpendicular to the back plate.)
Add this project to your DP. Write 2-3 paragraphs summarizing the project so far and include 1 picture of your project and 1 picture of some in-progress work. Then, answer the following 3 questions: 1. What worked for you? 2. What was surprising? 3. What will you change for next time/draft? Use my DP as an example.
Section 2 understanding assignments qualify for section 3 as well.
